The Hits per Visitor report
tracks the average number of hits a visitor makes before leaving your
site.
The Hits per Visit report helps you spot changes in
the level of interest in your web site. For example, an increase in
the average number of hits indicates that people are staying longer
at your site. A decrease, on the other hand, may indicate a problem
with the structure or content of the site.
Improving your site's structure and content may increase
the average number of hits. However, use caution: an increase in the
average number of hits may not mean that visitors are more interested
in your site. Instead, it may mean that an increase in the number of
images per page is resulting in more hits for the same or fewer page
requests.
Note: A "hit" is any request
from a visitor for any file, such as a web page, bitmap, CGI,
or header request. For example, to view a web page containing two images
a visitor must make three hits: one hit for the page, and two
for the image files.
Note: Since a "refresh"
or "reload" results in a request to your web server, LiveStats counts
it as another hit.
Note: A "visit" or session
is defined as one or more page requests from a unique IP address.
A visit expires after a set "time-out" period. After the visit "times
out", any further request by the same visitor is counted as a
new visit.
