The By Machine Name or RDNS report shows the machine ID—NETBIOS name or RDNS value—of the most frequent visitors to your Web site. LiveStats uses reverse DNS (Domain Name System) lookup to resolve the machine ID.

The Visitors by Machine Name or RDNS report lets you see who in your organization is viewing your intranet site. Since you control the names given to machines on your network, you can identify which employees and therefore which departments or divisions are accessing the site. This report can help you compare the frequency of use of different groups in your organization.

This report can also help you gather information about outside visitors to your company's Web site. The RDNS value returned on an RDNS lookup can indicate the country of origin and the company name of the visitor. For example, an RDNS value ending in ".co.uk" indicates the visitor is from a company based in the United Kingdom.

If no reverse DNS information is available, the computer is contacted and asked for its NETBIOS name.

Note: Machine identity is counted once per visit

Note: Machine name refers to the computer or NETBIOS name of the visitor. For example: "computer0001".

Note: RDNS value refers to the domain name associated with the visitor's IP address. For example: "support.deepmetrix.com".
